KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam said during a press conference Friday he will not step down as CEO of Pilot Flying J in light of a federal investigation.

“Candidly…I haven’t done anything wrong…and if there was ever a time the company needed leadership, it is now,” said Haslam.

Federal agents raided the company’s headquarters in Knoxville earlier this week as they concluded an investigation that began in May 2011.

A federal affidavit indicates that a confidential informant told investigators that Haslam and Pilot Flying J’s current president knew about fraud relating to unpaid rebates. The documents say Haslam and the company president were in the room when the fraud was discussed.

During Friday’s press conference, Haslam said he and his company have tried to be transparent about the situation and investigation.

“We feel confident this company is run the right way, and will continue to be run the right way,” he said.

Haslam said Pilot Flying J will continue its own investigation, and if it yields any inappropriate behavior, “we’ll take immediate action.”

Haslam did not take questions from the media during the press conference.
